What is Rani?

ra·â€‹ni

Definition

/räˈnÄ“,ˈränÄ“/

a ruler or queen in their own right.

RANICreative is a collective that releases issues semi-monthly, similarly to a magazine. It bridges the gaps between different forms of art, and has different themes highlighted in each issue. It serves to represent minority and LGBTQ+ women/femmes/NB folx and their artwork and creates a community amongst them. Our founder created RANI with the belief that surrounding yourself with the creatives that you aspire to be and learning from them is much more productive than being envious of them. That is the purpose that she hopes RANI will serve.

Imaan Rajan is a rising sophomore at the University of Toronto, and the founder and Editor-in-Chief of this creative collective. She spends time exploring as many art mediums as she can, from singing to writing to photography. She is an executive member of the VicRecords music label at the University of Toronto and an aspiring poet. She enjoys portrait photography because she loves making people feel beautiful, and capturing that beauty. As a Muslim-American female artist, she found that there was not nearly enough representation around her, and through RANI, she wanted to create space and foster a community where this representation could flourish. You can find her work within this collective in the Visual and Editorial & Poetry section.
